Pip Calculator — Forex Pip Value for All Currency Pairs

Calculate the exact pip value in USD for any forex currency pair and lot size. Enter your pair, lot size, and current price to instantly see how much each pip movement is worth in your account currency.

How to Use the Pip Calculator

Using the pip calculator is simple. Start by selecting your currency pair from the dropdown — the calculator supports all major and most minor pairs. The current price field will auto-fill with a reference rate, but you should update it with the live market price for accurate results.

Next, enter your lot size in standard lots. One standard lot equals 100,000 units of the base currency. If you trade mini lots (10,000 units), enter 0.1; for micro lots (1,000 units), enter 0.01.

Click Calculate Pip Value to instantly see the dollar value of one pip for a standard lot, mini lot, and micro lot. Use this to size your positions correctly and calculate stop loss distances in dollar terms.

The Formula

The pip value formula depends on whether USD is the quote currency or the base currency:

  • USD as quote currency (EUR/USD, GBP/USD, etc.):
Pip Value = Pip Size × Lot Units
    Example: 0.0001 × 100,000 = $10 per standard lot
  • USD as base currency (USD/JPY, USD/CAD, USD/CHF):
Pip Value = (Pip Size × Lot Units) ÷ Current Price
    Example at USD/JPY 150.5: (0.01 × 100,000) ÷ 150.5 ≈ $6.64

For cross pairs (EUR/GBP, EUR/JPY), the calculation uses the current exchange rate to convert the pip value into USD. The pip size is 0.0001 for most pairs and 0.01 for JPY pairs (which are quoted to 2 decimal places).

  • Mini Lot Pip Value = Standard Lot Pip Value ÷ 10
  • Micro Lot Pip Value = Standard Lot Pip Value ÷ 100

Practical Examples

Example 1 — EUR/USD, 1 Standard Lot

  • Pair: EUR/USD | Pip Size: 0.0001 | Lot: 1.0 (100,000 units)
  • Pip Value = 0.0001 × 100,000 = $10.00 per pip
  • A 50-pip move = $500 profit or loss
  • Mini lot (0.1): $1.00/pip | Micro lot (0.01): $0.10/pip

Example 2 — USD/JPY, 2 Standard Lots at 150.50

  • Pair: USD/JPY | Pip Size: 0.01 | Lot: 2.0 (200,000 units)
  • Raw pip value = 0.01 × 200,000 = 2,000 JPY
  • Converted: 2,000 ÷ 150.50 = ~$13.29 per pip
  • A 30-pip move = ~$398.67 profit or loss

Why Pip Value Matters for Risk Management

Knowing your pip value is the foundation of proper position sizing. If your stop loss is 40 pips away and your pip value is $10, you are risking $400 on that trade. For a $10,000 account at 1% risk ($100 maximum), you would need to reduce your lot size to 0.25 standard lots so that 40 pips × $2.50/pip = $100 risk.
