How to Use the Staking Rewards Calculator

Start by entering the staked amount — the USD value of the tokens you plan to lock in a staking contract. Next, enter the APY (Annual Percentage Yield) advertised by your staking protocol. Common rates range from 3–5% for ETH staking on Ethereum to 15–25% for proof-of-stake chains like Cosmos or Polkadot, and higher for newer or riskier protocols.

Select a staking period from the dropdown — options span 30 days to 5 years. Then choose your compounding frequency: if your protocol auto-compounds rewards (or you manually reinvest), select the appropriate interval. If you simply withdraw rewards without reinvesting, choose "No Compounding" and disable the "Reinvest Rewards" toggle.

Finally, enter the token price to see how many tokens you earn in addition to the USD reward figure. Hit Calculate Staking Rewards to see your total reward, final portfolio value, effective APY, ROI, and a breakdown by day, week, month, and year.

The Formula

The calculator supports two modes: simple interest (no compounding) and compound interest (reinvested rewards).

Simple Interest (no compounding)

  • Total Reward = Staked Amount × (APY / 100) × (Days / 365)

Compound Interest

  • Periodic Rate (r) = (APY / 100) / n, where n = compounding periods per year (365 daily, 52 weekly, 12 monthly, 1 annually)
  • Number of Periods = Days / (365 / n)
  • Final Value = Staked Amount × (1 + r)^Periods
  • Total Reward = Final Value − Staked Amount
  • Effective APY = ((Final Value / Staked Amount)^(365 / Days) − 1) × 100
  • ROI = (Total Reward / Staked Amount) × 100
  • Token Rewards = Total Reward (USD) / Token Price

The daily / weekly / monthly figures displayed in the breakdown are approximate and computed using the stated APY divided linearly over the year. They serve as a quick reference for expected periodic income rather than exact compounded sub-period values.

Practical Examples

Example 1 — ETH Staking at 4% APY for 1 Year

  • Staked Amount: $10,000 | APY: 4% | Period: 365 days
  • Compounding: Daily | Token Price: $3,500
  • Total Reward: ~$408 | Final Value: ~$10,408
  • Effective APY: ~4.08% | ROI: ~4.08%
  • Daily: ~$1.10 | Monthly: ~$33.40

Ethereum staking through liquid staking protocols such as Lido (stETH) or Rocket Pool (rETH) typically yields 3–5% APY. Rewards are auto-compounded daily, and you retain liquidity via the liquid staking token.

Example 2 — Cosmos (ATOM) Staking at 18% APY for 90 Days

  • Staked Amount: $5,000 | APY: 18% | Period: 90 days
  • Compounding: Monthly | Token Price: $8
  • Total Reward: ~$215 | Final Value: ~$5,215
  • ROI: ~4.3% over 90 days
  • Token Rewards: ~26.9 ATOM

Cosmos (ATOM) has historically offered 15–25% APY for delegated staking. Note that ATOM has an unbonding period of 21 days — tokens cannot be accessed during that time after unstaking.

Example 3 — Stablecoin Staking at 8% APY for 2 Years

  • Staked Amount: $20,000 | APY: 8% | Period: 730 days
  • Compounding: Daily
  • Total Reward: ~$3,328 | Final Value: ~$23,328
  • Effective APY: ~8.33% | ROI: ~16.64%

Stablecoin staking on protocols like Anchor or AAVE removes token price risk while still generating yield. This is popular among risk-averse crypto holders seeking passive income without exposure to price volatility.

Compounding vs Simple Interest — The Difference

At 10% APY for 5 years with daily compounding, a $10,000 stake grows to ~$16,487. With simple interest (no reinvestment), it only reaches $15,000. The $1,487 difference is pure compounding effect — "interest on interest" accumulated over time. Over 20+ years, compounding dramatically outperforms simple staking.
